Bangladesh and Brazil become the founding member of the Global Alliance against Poverty and Hunger under G20 Platform

Today Bangladesh has proudly joined the Global Alliance against Poverty and Hunger along with Brazil in Rio de Janeiro under the Brazilian Presidency at the G20 Platform. On behalf of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ambassador of Bangladesh Her Excellency Sadia Faizunnesa signed Bangladesh’s Statements of Commitments (SoC) for joining the Alliance, whereas Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira signed the Brazil’s SoC for the Alliance. Bangladesh is also the first country to contribute a symbolic token of 50,000 USD to the Support Mechanism of the Alliance with a view to operationalizing it.

Bangladesh’s accomplishment in her fight against poverty and hunger under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was highly acclaimed by the G20 Presidency of Brazil, many member states of G20 and international organizations. Bangladesh’s commitment to the Global Alliance and her becoming one of the first founding member beside Brazil have been appreciated by all. Brazilian Minister for Social Development Wellington Dias highly praised Bangladesh’s achievement in poverty alleviation and hunger reduction and her sincere commitment to the Alliance. President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva graced the event as the Chief Guest and called on the global leaders to exert their goodwill to fight this global menace.
